You will not be able to get internet straight away, consider getting a SIM card (Virgin, Du or Etisalat) that has a data package attachment so you can still get online
You may find Skype restricted, download it before leaving the UK (FaceTime is restricted, it is not available when buying a new iPhone or iPad in Dubai)
Make sure your mobile phone is unlocked before leaving the UK and will accept new SIM cards
