Must haves

Kings’ visa applications
The visa process is lengthy but to summarise the steps are as follows:

  • KHDA teacher approval
  • Work permit application (this can be processed while you are inside/outside of the UAE)
  • Medical and Emirates ID application
  • Residence visa application (at this stage we can add you to the Kings’ medical policy)

It is not possible for the government relations team to confirm time frames of visa processing in the current circumstances, however the process is likely to be finalised a few weeks after your joining date. At this time, we cannot confirm if those entering the UAE in August will do so on a tourist visa or entry work permit.

Visa applications for staff based in the UAE
If you are based in the UAE, please keep in touch with the Government Relations Team over the summer if your visa is due to expire and they can advise you on whether you should arrange a tourist visa/visa extension. The team cannot arrange this for you but can advise on the status of your Kings’ visa at that time.

Medical insurance
Company medical insurance
As advised above, visa applications come in conjunction with medical insurance arrangements, we can only add you to the company medical policy during the latter stage of the process. Our medical insurance policy is updated in October each year and you will receive further information on this closer to the time of renewal.

Travel insurance
Please arrange travel insurance to cover your first 8 weeks in the UAE. If you have any ongoing medication requirements, please ensure you bring ample medication to cover this period. Finally, please also ensure any medications you bring to the UAE are not restricted here and that you have a supporting prescription to carry the medication to the UAE.

Commencement flights (relevant to international contracts)
We are planning to book Kings’ commencement flights in August.

If you are joining a commencement flight and would like to add additional luggage or make flight arrangements such as meal preferences, you can do so independently by accessing your online booking once we have issued tickets.*

Making alternative flight arrangements
Should you wish, you can make your own flight booking and claim a reimbursement, however, please be aware that the reimbursement amount is capped. You must ensure you arrive in Dubai in time to attend the induction.

Some airlines may require you to have a return flight booking in order to enter Dubai on a tourist visa, please check with the relevant airline. As we are unsure at this time as to whether we will be able to arrange entry work permits, you may enter on a tourist visa. If you would like to check the status of your visa application before booking a flight, please contact the Government Relations Manager Arifa, who will have a clearer idea of how the application process is coming along.

Travel requirements
The reimbursement will cover the cost of a one way journey from the UK to Dubai and will be capped based on fares at the time, the cap is typically based on a one way journey from London Heathrow to Dubai International Airport. If you are required to book a return as you will be entering on a tourist visa, we will revise the reimbursement cap based on a return journey from London Heathrow to Dubai International Airport.

We will require a copy of the flight ticket receipt in your own name and a flight reimbursement form will be circulated in the coming weeks.

Accommodation – (relevant to international contracts)
For those taking a housing allowance, please refresh your memory on document requirements by referring back to your onboarding emails or the ‘Staff Accommodation’ tab.

You should be aware that you cannot arrange a tenancy contract without an Emirates ID and residence visa. Both documents may not be issued until weeks after employment commences. If you need to make interim arrangements such as a hotel/serviced apartment, you must provide receipts to the HR office until you are able to secure permanent accommodation to avail your monthly housing allowance.  You cannot avail the allowance while staying with friends/family.
