Steps:

Firstly, you must obtain your residence visa and Emirates ID card.

You can drive hire cars without a UAE licence while you are waiting for the above process to be complete if you have entered the country on a visit visa or employment visa. As soon as you have your residence visa you MUST obtain your UAE driving licence.

You can obtain your eye test certificate at any authorized optician. You will need 2 passport-sized photos and you need to mention that it is for driving licence. Some RTA centres also provide the eye test at similar cost.

You need to take all documents mentioned above and go to Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) office for licencing from 8.00 am to 2.30 pm on a working day. There are a few offices close by such as RTA office at Al Manara Center on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Fill in application form that you will receive there and submit all documents to the officer.

Take signed documents from officer and pay the fees to the cashier. Then your name will be called out and your photograph taken.

A few minutes later, you will receive your licence.

Happy driving and remember to remain calm and considerate!
