In order to best support your relocation to Dubai, Kings’ Education has a long-standing relationship with Gabbitas Middle East, an organisation providing comprehensive orientation guidance for living and working in the Middle East.

Gabbitas Education will be running their Teaching Abroad Seminars 2019 for teachers in the UK who are new to teaching in the UAE.

The seminars will be hosted by Fiona Mckenzie, Head of Gabbitas Middle East, and Julia Cousins, an orientation expert. Gabbitas will be running two fact filled seminars in May and June at Gabbitas Education office based in London.

Teaching Abroad: Preparing to Leave the UK – TBC
This seminar looks at how to prepare to leave the UK and the following topics will be discussed:

  • Tax & national insurance
  • Student loans & liabilities
  • Mortgage, house & life insurance
  • Your UK banks & investments
  • Do you need a will?
  • Teacher’s Pension Scheme
  • Can you still use the NHS?
  • Your house – rent or sell?
  • Documentation needed
  • Keep, take or sell?

Teaching Abroad: What to expect when you arrive in the UAE – TBC
This seminar will focus on important information about living in the UAE including the following:

  • Cost of living
  • Import restrictions
  • Driving in the UAE
  • Sending money home
  • Where to go, what to see
  • Getting around in the UAE
  • Renting a property & DEWA
  • Pension & financial planning
  • Cultural differences, dos & don’ts
  • Offshore, onshore – banking queries
  • Alcohol and the law

Each attendee will receive supporting reference material providing them with a useful guide to what they need to do over the forthcoming months in order to leave the UK, and what they should expect on arriving in the UAE.
